Well I tested all the coil wiring from the PCM connector forward and it each coil has continuity. I'm starting to wonder if the coil driver in the pcm is shot. DOes anyone have a 99 300M PCM laying around they are looking to sell?

Have you tried swapping the coil out with one from a different cylinder or a spare you may have lying around? Can't say I have ever seen a coil driver go out on these PCM's.

I swapped my number 2 coil to the number 4 cylinder and still had the same issue. My plan was to pic up a new spark plug, try to get a new PCM and there appears to be some type of resistor or relay for the coils on the driverside that bolts on the valve cover that I plan on replacing also. Hopefully something will work, but at least I have a start knowing that the wiring was good.

When Monitored and Set Condition:

P0354-IGNITION COIL #4 CIRCUIT
When Monitored: With battery voltage greater than 11 volts. Engine running. Engine
RPM less than 8160. No coil in dwell during test.
Set Condition: Peak current is not achieved with battery based dwell plus 1.5 msec of
diagnostic offset. It takes less than 3 seconds during cranking or up to 6 seconds while
running to set. One Trip Fault.

Keep in mind the above info is for an 04 300m so some things may be different.

I'm going to try to get a capacitor and at least a new spark plug and go measure ohm's tonight.

I got that manual thanks! I think it will come in handy!

I have read of the PCM outputs going bad - symptom is that one or more coils burn up (not designed for 100% duty cycle). A thread or two in the last 2 or 3 years over on DI.net or LHF - I forget which.

I watched #4 coil literally catch fire and puked grey jelly. The new coil has not done this but it sure doesnt work. I tested it with a few test leads off of a battery and it fires a plug and the harness is good. The only things left to go bad are the PCM and the capacitor. I ordered a cap today and it should be in tomorrow so i'll give her a shot if not I'm going to have to try a new PCM... That will suck because the Chrysler dealer wants $191.40 to initialize the SKIM .....

(for the end of story on that one, skip to page 4)

Has to be PCM - no way the capacitor could burn up the coil. If the capacitor shorts out, it simply shorts 12V bus to ground, blowing fuse - no stress on the coil from that. See p. 8W-30-6 of '02 FSM (same circuit as on '99).

After looking at the schematic I agree with bill

Nice work, looks great. Wish I had the skills for an engine rebuild,
Would love to learn how to do an engine install!

Keep the projects flowing...

I picked up my new computer and in the process found out the 2.7L 42LE transmissions have a 3.89 final drive. I found one and now am looking for the 99-01 TCM. I figured since this rear main has to be fixed and I need to separate the engine and trans I might as well put in a more reliable transmission (mien has 170,000). Especially since last year I blew a trans cooler line and it kinda sounds like a jet plane now.

I got my new ECM, I'm trying to get a bit of time to take the car to get the new PIN done for the SKIM. This whole step is a pain in the (CENSORED) because even after going to the service dept at a Chrysler dealer no one is willing to give me an actual quote usually saying "well if Its just programing a key it will only be $25.00""But it could be more..."

I seriously hate dealing with the dealership, I have even handed these clowns a copy of the steps for the DRB. NOw my quotes have ranged from $25.00-$490.00
