Air Condition Sporadic

As i stated in the title, this is my situation. About a month ago i had the system charged, which was low on freon. AC worked amazing for about two weeks when out of the blue it no longer blew cold air. After a couple days I tried it again and my cold air was back once again. Now it is about a 50/50 chance I will receive cold or warm air. After two months, I went back to the shop who had charged it, and it reads it has full pressure. So at least i know it has no leaks. Im thinking it could be the blower motor? I checked fuses and everything checks out there. Before tearing it apart i figured I would ask here and see if anybody else has experienced the same issues.

Thanks, Paul

Try Recalibrating the ATC : viewtopic.php?f=114&t=9163
My Pro - Am gets goofy sometimes and a recal usually restores normal operation.

Update: After lots of testing. I believe I have found the issue. The air conditioning would only blow cold when the car was moving above 50mph. Hence why it would change when idling. So I will be looking into the condensor fan. And seeing if it is broke.

Can also be the condenser itself. If the fan doesn't work right you would get an overheat situation (or at least almost overheat)

This ATC recal worked for me when mine wasn't blowing very cold. Definitely the thing to try first!

Yes I will look at the condensor also, from what I can tell just by having the car sit at operating temp, the fan is not turning on. I will look at both.

Yup I had tried the recal, no luck. The car is an ice box over 70mph.

Fans should turn on either when ac is on, or coolant temp gets close to half. Turn on and off according to coolant temp.

In theory i agree. when i turn my AC on, regardless of the temperature of the engine, i only get the single fan that turns on once the thermostat reaches its temp.

4thgenChryslerfam,

So what you are telling us is one of your cooling fans
( behind the radiator ) is not working at all ?
Both of those fans should be operating the same at all times.
(both off, both low speed or both high speed )
If not, one of the fan motors is burned out
Exactly what temps are you seeing on the engine temp gauge ?
( 3 /8 mark is considered normal engine full operating temperature.
Anything over 1 /2 is on the verge of overheating.
Let us know what you find out. Good luck.

Okay. I found the issue. This is by far the most confusing and simple thing.

Issue being, the fans themselves were. Not plugged in. Someone before me must have unplugged them and never plugged them back in. I thought that is was only the passenger side, but it must have been both that have not turned on. My question now is, through 6 months of driving, how has the car not overheated without fans? I rarely saw it reach above half (only in stop and go).

Well above half is overheating , but if you had the ac off and the outside temps weren't that high, with the car moving (even in stop and go), it would be just enough to keep it from not "boiling" .
