Wow, that was certainly a Carlisle for the books! The clubs 13th year attending this meet did not disappoint and proved to be a bit superstitious! A huge turnout of cars and members found the 300Ms taking up an entire section of the showfield and looking great!
It all started on Thursday as members began to arrive at the hotel. A late lunch found us at OUR table at Dockside Willies and then off to do some shopping. Parking lot shenanigans commenced as the group grew and our car family gathered. It's like the group couldn't wait to hang out and Saturday night was just too long away. As John said, THIS is the meet, that thing we go do during the day is a car show. While preemptive, who would have known this would be it! The final group turned in about 2:30am and rose early to get to the showfield on Friday!
Friday morning was the typical arrival at the snowfield jockey for spots, set up the tables and chairs, and get settled in for the weekend. It was a hot and humid day challenging everyone to stay hydrated. A huge surprise of Dave, Cindy, Groom-M and Bride-M arrived and were welcomed with open arms!
Friday night found the group in the parking lot where else would we be?! and addressing the cars. There were mirror changes, headlight changes, light installations, and all sorts of other mods being done. Though a lot got done, it was an early night.
Saturday started with the O-dark-thirty group headed to the showfield and a yummy breakfast. Sporting our "Keep Calm and Mod On" t-shirts, it was another hot one for sure with temperatures reaching 90 and high humidity. Final car prep and rubbin got all 30 cars in attendance looking good and ready for judging. Bob and Keith spent much of the day using a detailed judging sheet to evaluate each car. Here starts the rollercoaster! Poor Evan, Brian's son, had a terrible stomach bug which found him in the hospital to ensure nothing more serious! During lunch prep, Colleen, Bill's wife accidentally spilled hot water down the front of her legs receiving 1st and 2nd degree burns! She too landed in the emergency room to get the burns looked at and some pain medicine. The afternoon spotted Ralph Gilles, an influential designed of the interior of our car! A few even landed signatures on various parts to be displayed in their rides!
As the group gathered to head to our annual club dinner at the Fire House, it came to our attention that there might be some complications with the reservation. Upon arriving the restaurant the group manager did pull Keith and Lindsey aside to take full responsibility for the mix up, express his professional embarrassment, and apologies for dropping the ball with our group reservation. While the group again missed out on duckcakes (whimper!!) it was amazing to have such a large gathering of family 60 people for dinner!! Raffles, 50-50, and club awards were announced. Congratulations to all!
As the group left the restaurant and gathered at the hotel for the 4th annual sight and sound competition, our family experienced a final scare. While leaving the liquor store with Stan and Tyler, Bobby had a seizure and was taken to the ER. Yes, that's the 3rd trip to the ER in one day, and yes, Saturday night was the Super Moon! For not having a plan in place the group handled this emergency amazingly! As a small group gathered in Bobby's room at the hospital as he underwent tests, they were able to give the group at the hotel updates and offer great support. It seemed like hours went by while the crowd at the hotel muddled through a sight and sound competition and cake. As an exhausted group trickled off to bed, a few remained in the parking lot awaiting good news of Bobby's discharge. At 2am this news came and the welcoming committee anxiously waited for the cars to pull in! Funny how when they arrived, besides the huge hugs that were given, the group only wanted one thing - ice cream! They settled for some cake and headed to bed shortly after. While they weren't the typical shenanigans of Saturday, they were certainly shenanigans!
By Sunday morning the group was looking a bit ragged but was energized by the showfield winners! Sunday is always the worst as the group dwindles and we have to say our see you laters. The parade was small this year as the heat and threats of rain scared many away. Justin, William and Craig represented!! Most members were on the road by early afternoon to head home if they weren't staying the night.
A true testament of what this group really is, a car family who is there for you no matter what! I think Bill put it in perspective quite well on Saturday - this is a group of people we each met on the internet. A scary thought at first, but I'm so thankful to have become a part of this family and this crazy thing we do! From all walks of life, varying backgrounds, wide ages, states and countries worldwide, the 300M has brought us together and the character, personality, and amazing people has all made it work!
Many, many thanks to all who attended - it was an amazing turnout! Endless thanks to those who cooked and baked, brought coolers, transported goods, offered help over and over again and supported each other through some tough times. It is a true group effort and could not happen without the efforts of all!
Patient Update: Evan is feeling MUCH better and happy to have that behind him!! Colleen continues to heal nicely and is looking forward for them to be completely gone!! Bobby has been seen by his PCP and told he can resume his normal activity!!
Thanks again everyone, can't believe it's over for another year! See you all July 2015 if not in OC this October!! Love to you all!
