I’m late, I’m late, I’m late…on getting us a meet recap! It feels like as fast as Carlisle arrived, it ended!
As many of you have heard, the Jarvis family had an interesting arrival to Carlisle. As the arrival posts started, we found ourselves stranded on the side of the New Jersey Turnpike with a broken down M. The group gathered and headed to our traditional first meal at Dockside Willies. As tradition has it, they got the same big table in the back. Finally, after two towing experiences, the Jarvis’ arrived to a parking lot of support! Darlene and Colleen accompanied Lindsey on a late night Walmart shopping trip.
Friday morning found us at the showfield getting our club headquarters set up for the weekend. As cars claimed their spots for the weekend and began to clean and set-up, the heat started to turn up. Everyone knew where we were with our new banner and feather fags flying proudly. They looked great and really drew people in! Thankful for a breeze, the group gathered under the tent for shade, in between walking the swap meet, viewing other cars in attendance, and waiting for the test drive and thrill ride. Mid-afternoon the group began to trickle back to the hotel and talk of dinner. Our traditional Friday dinner at Texas Roadhouse found a large group of us waiting for tables. They’re wonderful at getting us sat together which was important for the big celebration - in case you didn’t hear, we suckered Joe into re-celebrating a birthday. Funny enough, it was offered up as his 21st birthday – who knew? Not Joe! He was a trooper and went along with all the celebratory shenanigans. Returning to the parking lot for drinking, rubbing, and moding the group dwindled into the early morning hours.
Saturday is an early morning at the showfield. Many in club shirts and ready for another super hot day. There were over 2700 cars in attendance so it was busy for sure! Lots to see, many looks at our cars, and our own participant voting took place. BINGO was lucrative for a newcomer to Carlisle and friend of Ryan and Ashley’s, Jess. Saturday night was our traditionally club dinner at the Fire House Restaurant located in downtown Harrisburg, across the street from the state house. Many orders of duck cakes later, we had a great dinner and club award ceremony. Checkout the winners post!
For the first time in many years, dinner was quick and efficient and found us departing back for the hotel in the daylight. Back at the hotel, Joe’s made-up birthday celebration continued with birthday cake. We toasted with precious to fellow members no longer with us and enjoyed a huge group hanging out in the parking lot. Many projects continued and we were entertained by Robert A’s cool lighting mods. As the group trickled off to bed, 3am saw the few strong night owls!
Sunday morning is slow going as the group packs up for the weekend. A relaxing breakfast found the group gathered for one last super hot day. The goodbyes started all too early as people started to head back home after another successful Carlisle. Showfield awards were posted and all were excited to see the wonderful rides that won. Team Discovery, Bob and Keith, left mid morning to begin the investigative work on M-Pressive. A few of us waiting in the blazing sun to do the test drive and thrill ride – super cool! The parade had a presence of LHs and we even were able to get the infamous red, white, and blue M picture. As the group thinned to only the last few, Carlisle 2016 was in the books.
A relatively uneventful year, no medical emergencies (yay!), and great time spent with awesome family! It’s hard to think we have to wait another year to do it again! Thanks so much for those who joined us for a great meet; it’s always wonderful to gather with our rides and catch up. Since we won’t be heading back to Ocean City in the fall, there’s talk of rendezvousing in Memphis at Stan’s restaurant for a weekend. Stay tuned for more on this if you’re interested!
