To my knowledge the only change from 02 to 03 was the shift pattern you described. Tapping the T/C button will not completely disable T/C in just about any car. Not even SRT vehicles (can be fully defeated only via certain hoops in current SRT vehicles).

I haven't driven any LH vehicle other than 02 Specials since my ES in 2005, so I've no idea what anyone expects from this upgrade.

Not sure why all the talk of "no Specials had 17" etc...that is incorrect.

All specials since 02 could be ordered and indeed many delivered with 17" rims, and the 17's were always available and listed in the 02 brochure as optional on the special and are listed as "Standard" in the 03 brochure. Nothing had to be changed for the speedo to remain correct as the overall tire diameter is essentially the same:

245/45/R18 = 225/55/R17

I have both 02 and 03 Brochures, no 04 however.

Cheers!

In 2002, the Special came standard with 18" wheels. I don't know if it could be special ordered with a downsize to 17", but I've heard of automakers allowing that from time to time. If Chrysler permitted that, it was incredibly rare. In 2003 and 2004, the 17" "twin-six" in chrome was the standard wheel, and the 18" wheel was an optional package upgrade. It was a response to folks complaining about the harshness of the ride of the 2002s. Supposedly the 17" wheel package also came with the standard sway bars, and the 18" package got you the Special sway bars.

Very nice ride there...!

I have personally seen a number of 17" equipped 02-04 Special, and always thought, "hey who took your wheels?"
However all four of my rides have the 18's.
